i have a photo section that generates awful page urls… such as index.php?id=10
even though i was populating the title, h1 and alt with my phrases, my photos were being punished by google until about a year ago when i decided to change the script to include meta description. (that was the only change i made at that time.)
my thinking was… everyone says google ignores meta description because it can so easily be abused… yet google makes such a big thing about missing or duplicated meta descriptions when you look inside your webmaster tools/google console.
within a week of adding meta description to all my image pages, they were showing up highly in google web search results.
that was about a year ago so i did a search for my keyphrases again today after receiving your report. sure enough, my site still shows up #1 on page 1.
it will be interesting for me to delete the meta descrip on a few pages to see if they once again fall out of the rankings.
thanks for sharing your test results.
i read (and value) every single one of your insights.
